Spotlight Media is constantly growing and changing. As we’re sad to see team members leave, we’re always excited to announce our newest hires. Since all our employees come from a wide range of backgrounds, each member offers unique skills that help the Spotlight Media team become even stronger and more well-rounded.

Meet our two new sales executives and learn what makes them a perfect fit for our company.

Daniel Helm | Sales Executive

Sales Executive Daniel Helm

“I lived in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, until I was eight and then moved to a little lake just outside of Frazee, Minnesota, where I graduated from high school. I went to NDSU after high school and took the long route by quitting and I headed to Portland, Oregon, for a couple of years until I decided to come back and finish school. Since then I’ve sold books, Red Bull, supervised three departments at a hospital, and worked for a while as an environmental consultant. I also managed to get married about 10 years ago to an amazing woman and we have two awesome sons and more pets than I care to list.”

What originally drew you to Spotlight Media?
“I’ve been in Fargo for most of the last two decades and I really wanted to be more involved in all of the positive change and growth that I’ve seen over time in the Fargo-Moorhead area. I think that Spotlight Media has been a big part of that and I wanted an opportunity to be more involved in the community with a fun company that supports it.”

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
“I like to run, read, write, take pictures, golf, play guitar and quite a few other things. I’m pretty passionate about good food and beer, too. I also try to spend as much time with my family and friends and include them in the things I like to do as much as possible.”

What’s your favorite book and/or movie?
“I have always said that I don’t have favorites, but ‘Under the Volcano’ is up there as far as books go. It doesn’t get much better than that.”

Share something about yourself that would surprise us.
“I’m terrified of public speaking.”

What’s the most useless talent you have?
“Self-deprecation, it’s literally useless to everyone, but I’m really good at it.”

Christopher Cates | Sales Executive

Sales Executive Christopher Cates

“I was born and raised in Hot Springs, South Dakota, where I also graduated high school in 2001. I attended the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology until 2004, where I studied history. I moved to Moorhead that same year and transferred to MSUM where I continued to study history. I have done a little bit of everything for jobs. I have been a radio DJ and a barista. I have sold leather coats, eyeglasses and cell phones. I even owned a liquor store for 2 years. My last job was as an inventory buyer for Cellular Communications.”

What originally drew you to Spotlight Media?
“I was drawn to Spotlight Media because of how well it represents the community and how well respected it is everywhere I go. Owner Mike Dragosavich has done an excellent job of building a publication model that appeals to many types of people. The content of the different magazines is always relevant and interesting, and the photography is always stunning.”

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
“My hobbies include anything music! I love live music—especially going to rock shows. I listen to everything, from bluegrass to hard rock and country to EDM. I love music.

“I also love to tinker, whether it’s building something with wood or tearing apart and repairing a cell phone or fixing something on my vehicle. I’m in the process of establishing a wood shop in my garage in my backyard. I’d love someday to build furniture and other wood products as gifts for friends and family.

“My girlfriend and I just got a pug named Bosco in June. He takes up a lot of our time now so lately I’ve been learning more about dogs. I would love to start volunteering in my time at a local shelter or vet clinic.”

What’s your favorite book and/or movie?
“My favorite book is one called ‘Villains by Necessity’ by Eve Forward. It’s a non-traditional story where the bad guys are the good guys. It’s a fun story that makes you consider a different point of view. I recommend it to everyone.

“I have two favorite movies. The first one is ‘Fight Club’ and I love it because it makes you think. You never really have the story figured out, even after the credits roll. The second one is ‘A Goofy Movie’ because how does everyone not love that movie?”

Share something about yourself that would surprise us.

  • “I flew on my first airplane at the age of four but didn’t see an ocean until I was 27.”
  • “I have never set foot outside of the US, although I was once on a boat that stopped in Canada. I never left the boat.”
  • “My biggest fear is large things falling on me. I hate driving under trains or having planes fly directly over me.”
  • “I absolutely love black jelly beans.”
  • “Lastly, if I were not in sales, my dream job would be a stand-up comedian.”

What’s the most useless talent you have?
“My most useless talent is also the one that has won me the freest drinks. I’m an absolute trivia nerd. I can remember dates, names, facts and tons of useless knowledge, but I struggle to remember what to buy at the grocery store. I love watching Jeopardy and the looks I get when spewing out the answers to the questions. Maybe someday I’ll make it on to the show.”

Spotlight Media is constantly growing and changing. As we’re sad to see team members leave, we’re always excited to announce our newest hires. Since all our employees come from a wide range of backgrounds, each member offers unique skills that help the Spotlight Media team become even stronger and more well-rounded.

Meet our three new interns and learn what makes them a perfect fit for our company.

Tatiana Hasbargen | Admin/Business Operations Intern

“I graduated high school from Dilworth Glyndon Felton in 2014 and started college at NDSU that fall. I’m currently a senior at NDSU double majoring in marketing and global business, and I also have a minor in sociology. Before Spotlight, I was, and currently still am, a server at Lucky’s 13 in Fargo.”

Tatiana Hasbargen

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
“I love to travel, some may say it’s an obsession of mine. When I’m not working, in class, or studying, I’m most likely at a coffee shop or sitting outside (weather permitting, of course) researching and planning where I want to go next.”

Share something about yourself that would surprise us.
“Something that may be surprising to some is that I played hockey when I was in fourth grade. Something that is not so surprising is that I wasn’t very good, I was a forward and I scored one goal. I played quite a few different sports that year—I was better at some than others—and I will venture to disclose that I peaked athletically that year. Even though I was not the female version of T.J. Oshie, hockey is still my favorite sport. My family is a big hockey family so it will always have a place in my heart.

What drew you to Spotlight Media originally?
“I was drawn to Spotlight Media by the quality of the magazines published and the growth that the company has seen in its few years as a company.”

What are you looking forward to the most with your new position?
“I’m most excited about being part of a company that has so much support and outreach. It’s exciting for not only everyone here at Spotlight but also the entire FM community.”

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Spotlight Media for a day, whose job would you want? Why?
“If I could switch jobs with someone within Spotlight Media, I think I would switch with Editorial Director Andrew Jason. Mainly because Editorial Director Tatiana Hasbargen has a beautiful ring to it. I also think it would be awesome to work directly with the content of the magazines and the finalization steps.”

Last question, most important, if Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you? Why?
“If Hollywood made a movie about my life, I think I would pick Emma Watson to be cast as me, partly because I love British accents. Also because we then would be forced to get to know each other and I could ask her about her life, her accomplishments surrounding women’s rights and what she wants to do next.”

Anushree Kesurvala | Intern

“I was born and brought up in India in the state called Gujarat, which is on the West Coast. Currently, I’m studying for my undergraduate degree in business administration and management at Purdue University, Indiana. I completed two years at Purdue and will be a junior in the fall of 2017.”

Anushree Kesurvala

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
“I love singing and reading during my free time. Also, I’m a fan of stand-up comedies. They are my stress-busters.”

What’s your favorite book and/or movie?
“My favorite book is ‘Matilda.’ I have been a big fan of Roald Dahl and have read all his books. I was more inspired by the character when I was selected to be a part of the school skit for one of the scenes. The character Matilda indirectly also encouraged me to read more.”

Share something about yourself that would surprise us.
“I have been learning Indian Classical Music since sixth grade and am also a part of an acapella group on campus.”

What drew you to Spotlight Media originally?
“As I love to read about startups, I recently came across Fargo INC!, which gave me a lot of information about entrepreneurship and business at Fargo, thus I got interested in learning more by being a part of the community.”

What are you looking forward to the most with your new position?
“I look forward to learning about new resources and gain versatile experience in advertising and public relations. I’m really excited for my journey with Spotlight Media.”

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Spotlight Media for a day, whose job would you want? Why?
“I would switch my job with Jenny Johnson as I think that being a client relations manager is one of the most amazing things to do. Furthermore, she is always so cheerful!”

Last question, most important, if Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you? Why?
“I would like Anne Hathaway to play my role as I loved her character in the movie ‘The Devil Wears Prada.’ Also, I just love her smile!

“P.S. I have watched that movie at least 20 times.”

Ruth Olson | Marketing Intern

“Born and bred in Fargo, North Dakota. I go to Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, and major in marketing. Before working at Spotlight Media, I have worked as a nanny, office assistant, bartender and waitress.”

Ruth Olson

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
“If I’m not at work, I try to spend as much time as possible at the lake during the summer months. I love make-up, fashion, decorating, gardening and playing with my dogs. I enjoy watching sports, especially hockey, traveling, skiing and going to concerts.”

What’s your favorite book and/or movie?
“My top three favorite movies are ‘Step Brothers,’ ‘Bridesmaids’ and ‘Forrest Gump.’ I don’t think I can pick just one!”

Share something about yourself that would surprise us.
“I have a tattoo on the inside of my lower lip!”

What drew you to Spotlight Media initially?
“I was attracted to Spotlight Media because the company has so many different areas where I can gain experience. They are growing and have an innovative staff.”

What are you looking forward to the most with your new position?
“I’m looking forward to learning and growing with Spotlight Media.”

Last question, most important, if Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you? Why?
“Jennifer Lawerence! I would want her to play the role of me in the movie of my life because then we would become best friends. My plan is foolproof. We would have to hang out for awhile so she can get to know me, my mannerisms and perfect my ‘North Dakota’ accent. Then we would be devastated that filming is over because we had so much fun these couple months and then she would look me dead in the eyes and ask, ‘Did we just become best friends? Yup.'”

Nick Hackl | Business Operations Intern

Nick Hackl Spotlight Media

“I’m from the Twin Cities, more specifically Plymouth, Minnesota. I went to Wayzata High School, which is known for a variety of our sports as well as the large number of students who attend the school (close to 4,000). I just finished my junior year at NDSU pursuing business management, following the footsteps of my Dad and continuing to run our family business called RMH Business Solutions, which helps small business owners in a one-stop shop to get payroll, corporation taxes, bookkeeping and many others all done at the same place. The company is a franchise and I hope to be able to fly out to the different locations and see what is doing well for the owners and what could be improved in a way that will increase revenue.”

Share something about yourself that would surprise us?
“Some fun things about me are that I started playing sports at a very young age and kept wanting to learn how to play a different sport each year. Due to that, I have played most sports: basketball, soccer, baseball, karate, cross-country running and skiing, track and field, football, dance, gymnastics, etc. Another fun thing is that freshmen year, I participated in reading a book a day. These books have ranged from leadership to motivation to even management.”

What are you looking forward to the most with your new position?
“Throughout my Internship, I hope to accomplish what the operation side of a company all entails as well as how to overcome obstacles to keep a company thriving.”

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Spotlight Media for a day, whose job would you want? Why?
“If I could switch jobs with anyone else within Spotlight Media for a day, it would be Mike. The reason for this is I want to see how stressful it really is owning a company and waking up every morning asking the same question day after day: How can I make an impact not only to the people around me but also to the community?”

Last question, most important, if Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you? Why?
“And if Hollywood made a movie about my life, I would like to see Chris Pratt play me because in the industry he is one of the nicest actors out there and genuinely enjoys being in movies and not just trying to see what movie would make him the most money. And so for that, I would want someone to play me who is known for being nice and genuine just like many have told me countless times.”

Kyle Gliva | Accounting Intern

“I am from Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, and I plan on graduating from NDSU with a degree in accounting/finance next year. For my previous two jobs, I worked as a sod laborer and as a warehouse worker, so this job is completely new to me.”

Kyle Gliva Spotlight Media

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
“I’m on the NDSU wrestling team and I spend plenty of time with that, so I’m not sure if I consider that a hobby or another job. Besides that, I love to golf, lift weights, and sleep.”

What’s your favorite book and/or movie?
Book: “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien
Movie: “Goodwill Hunting”

Share something about yourself that would surprise us?
“I’ve never left the country.”

What drew you to Spotlight Media originally?
“Saw the intern position posted on my career page, and it looked like an interesting position.”

What are you looking forward to the most with your new position?
“I am looking forward to learning how a business operates from an internal perspective and how to account for it and making new relationships.”

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Spotlight Media for a day, whose job would you want? Why?
“Not really sure, Mike probably.”

Last question, most important, if Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you? Why?
“Brad Pitt, similar looks.”

Reason: C’mon, it’s the Biebs!”

“I was born in Vietnam, went to high school in the Twin Cities. I recently graduated from Concordia College with a degree in business marketing and organizational leadership. Prior to Spotlight Media, I worked on the college’s website for 2 years and had a couple internships in the F-M area on social media and graphic design. I’m very passionate about supporting non-profit and small local businesses.”

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
“I love going to local community events, hanging out with creative folks at local coffee shops, eating tons of European chocolate. Sometimes when I feel a little artsy, I would do some water coloring and think of myself as an Huong-Picasso.”

What’s your favorite book and/or movie?
“Kingsman! It’s a hilarious, action-packed movie about a spy organization, which makes me want to become a professional secret agent—maybe it should be my next job!”

Share something about yourself that would surprise us?
“I know four languages and a couple web languages. Talk to me in Korean, Chinese and even Javascript!”

What drew you to Spotlight Media originally?
“I don’t remember how I got to my Spotlight Media application, but when I was invited in for an interview at Spotlight and first met Editorial Director Andrew Jason and Web Editor Samantha Stark. I was amazed by their passion and love for the F-M community, not to mention how much I love creative people. I’ve then decided this place should be my new home after college.”

What are you looking forward to the most with your new position?
“The best thing I love so far is sharing an open office with our very talented editorial team. So, besides looking forward to growing my web and e-commerce knowledge, I’m hoping to come in excited every day and get inspired by our very own creative team members.”

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Spotlight Media for a day, whose job would you want? Why?
“Mike Dragosavich. I’ve only followed Mike to a client meeting once, but I’ve learned so much from him. I want to see how Mike fits 72 hours of work into his 24-hour day. Plus, Mike is pretty good with web too, so I wouldn’t worry so much about him being the web coordinator that one day I get to be the CEO.”

Last question, most important, if Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you? Why?
“Emma Watson! She is a strong and independent individual who empowers young women all over the world. She is one of my role models and I don’t think anyone could possibly dislike her. Oh, and she has an accent and so do I.”

Seth Habhegger | Distribution & Circulation Manager

“I started out as a child, raised among the snowy wilds of rural Blackhoof Township in Carlton County in the lovely state of Minnesota. As the years progressed, I grew in knowledge and rapport, working in the financial industry and educating himself at the fine institutions of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and The New School, which is located within the soaring heights of New York City. Thus inculcated, I had the supreme pleasure of being hired by Spotlight Media in May of 2017.”

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
“On the personal side, I enjoy spending time with my lovely wife Beth and two young sons Rhone and Anders. I also enjoy reading, writing, singing, and helping Cass Act Players, a theater production group of which I’m a founding member, stage its first musical in 2018.”

Share something about yourself that would surprise us?
“Not many people know this but I once presented a paper about pop songs that relate to the apocalypse at a conference in Oxford, England. It was jolly good!”

Last question, most important, if Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you? Why?
“Alas, the only person who could portray me in a film would be the late, great Orson Welles. I just hope they use the younger version.”
