Meet Geneva Nodland

Where are you from?

I am from Dickinson, North Dakota.

Tell us a little bit about you.

I am a recent graduate from Minnesota State University Moorhead, with a degree in multimedia journalism. I love writing, photography, swimming, and taking care of my plants.

What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

In my spare time I like to relax and recharge by working on a photography project or doing yoga.

Tell us about your experience.

While in college, I worked for my school newspaper. I gained a lot of experience there, working my way up from freelance writer to Editor-in-Chief. Throughout this experience, I found that I love learning about new things and meeting new people.

What part of your job do you believe makes the most impact?

I think the most impactful part of my job is how we share stories. People share parts of themselves and trust us to tell their stories, we should honor that trust and deliver the story the best we can.

Why does our community matter to you?

A community gives people a sense of belonging and togetherness, and the Fargo-Moorhead community is no exception to that. In order to help create this community, it is important to share the stories of the individuals who make it up.

What are some of your goals at Spotlight?

Some of my goals are to write impactful stories, capture interesting photos, and meet some great people!

Meet Robert Whiteside

Where are you from?

I grew up in Minnesota and Japan, then somehow made my way to Fargo.

Tell us a little bit about you.

I’m pretty chill, I like getting out hiking, climbing, riding motorcycles, but also love just sitting at home watching a good movie or documentary.

If there was a movie about your life, who would play you and why?

I’m pretty average, I think just about any actor could play a role as me pretty well, except Mark Ruffalo. Can’t stand that guy.

What’s a ridiculous fact about yourself?

Once broke my collar bone checking someone in hockey and continued to play most of the game, until I finally realized I couldn’t move my arm.

Tell us about your experience.

Bought my first camera in high school and only started picking more up.  Freelanced on sets a ton in Fargo and Minneapolis, learning as much as I could from those willing to share their knowledge.

What part of your job do you believe makes the most impact?

I think being able to help tell other people’s stories in a meaningful way is what will make the most impact over time.

What are some of your goals at Spotlight?

I really want to help build all aspects of video production at Spotlight, so we can make some great meaningful, and impactful work.

Where are you from?

I’m from Fargo, ND

Tell us a little bit about you.

I live with my fiance Julia and my French Bulldog Frankie – I just graduated with a marketing degree from NDSU where I played football as well.

If there was a movie about your life, who would play you and why?

I think Jack Black would play me because we have similar energies and senses of humor and I moderately resemble him!

What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

I love to golf and barbecue in my free time.

What’s a ridiculous fact about yourself?

A ridiculous fact about myself is that I once ate 80 wings in one sitting at Buffalo Wild Wings.

What part of your position provides the most value?

The part of my position that provides the most value is my flexibility – I can help with a little bit of everything!

Tell us about your experience.

I’ve interned previously at Radio FM Media and Northwestern Mutual. I also started my own business last May! I’ve always enjoyed interacting with clients and developing solutions for the problems they encounter.

What part of your job do you believe makes the most impact?

I think the the most impactful part of my job will be being able to fit into any role in the company and add value no matter where that may be.

Why does our community matter to you?

The community matters so much to me because I was born and raised here – what I have and the way I am are all tied directly to the FM area. I love this area and I want to do my part in growing and bettering it.

What are some of your goals at Spotlight?

Some of my goals at Spotlight include finding and expanding my role, getting in front of community members and contributing to make Spotlight and the FM area better!

Welcome Ben Buchanan

Meet Our Newest Designer:
Ben Buchanan

Where are you from?

Fargo, ND

Tell us a little bit about you.

I studied graphic design at MSUM where I found a love for the creative and visual side of marketing.

If there was a movie about your life, who would play you and why?

Simon Pegg. I feel confident that he can accurately portray my distaste for Jar Jar Binks from the Star Wars franchise. I’m still upset about Jar Jar.

What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

If I’m not glued to a screen rewatching Frasier for the 12th time, you can catch me tearing up the streets on my bicycle.

What’s a ridiculous fact about yourself?

When the weather is cooperating, I drive a big old mustard yellow boat of a car named Loretta.

What part of your position provides the most value?

Visual insight on the design side of our client work.

Tell us about your experience.

I started interning with a local agency while finishing up some college courses. After receiving my degree I was hired full-time and learned a lot about juggling unique client needs in a fast-paced setting. I started receiving more and more motion graphic projects which propelled my love for animating designs.

What part of your job do you believe makes the most impact?

Getting to collaborate with the interactive team and coming up with creative ideas for clients.

Why does our community matter to you?

Being a born & raised Fargo boy, I’ve watched it grow and thrive. The passion people have for this city is something special to be a part of.

What are some of your goals at Spotlight?

To support my team and grow as a designer.
