Scott Rorvig | Sales Representative

“I grew up in on a cattle ranch outside of McVille, North Dakota (population of 500), and attended Dakota Prairie High School playing all sports possible. Then graduated from NDSU with a degree in sports management with a minor in business management during which I worked for the F-M RedHawks and NDSU Athletics. Post graduation, I have worked with Red River Financial and Eldermark Software.”

Scott Rorvig Spotlight Media

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
“I am a huge basketball guy, it has kind of dominated my life up to this point. I’m slowly opening up to new activities, such as snowboarding, running, biking. Anything to keep active/busy. Also big music guy, I have it playing about 90% of the day. If I could trade in all the lyrics in my head for useful knowledge, I may be a doctor.”

What’s your favorite book and/or movie?
Favorite book: “Blind Your Ponies” and “Shoe Dog”
Movie: “Dazed and Confused” and “Wolf of Wall Street”

Share something about yourself that would surprise us?

What drew you to Spotlight Media originally?
“I love what it does for Fargo, showcases all the good that’s going on in our community. Also, I believe it is a company that will only constituent to grow and makes a good impact overall.”

What are you looking forward to the most with your new position?
“I love getting out in the community and meeting the people that make the F-M area go and hopefully I can help them and their business do more of that in the future.”

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Spotlight Media for a day, whose job would you want? Why?
“Probably, Photographer Paul Flessland. I love photography. I am not really good at it unless you count anything done on an iPhone.”

Last question, most important, if Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you? Why?
“I got to go with my man, Justin Bieber. We have to see if he has any acting chops.
Reason: C’mon, it’s the Biebs!”

Huong Tran | Web/Digital Coordinator

Huong Tran

“I was born in Vietnam, went to high school in the Twin Cities. I recently graduated from Concordia College with a degree in business marketing and organizational leadership. Prior to Spotlight Media, I worked on the college’s website for 2 years and had a couple internships in the F-M area on social media and graphic design. I’m very passionate about supporting non-profit and small local businesses.”

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
“I love going to local community events, hanging out with creative folks at local coffee shops, eating tons of European chocolate. Sometimes when I feel a little artsy, I would do some water coloring and think of myself as an Huong-Picasso.”

What’s your favorite book and/or movie?
“Kingsman! It’s a hilarious, action-packed movie about a spy organization, which makes me want to become a professional secret agent—maybe it should be my next job!”

Share something about yourself that would surprise us?
“I know four languages and a couple web languages. Talk to me in Korean, Chinese and even Javascript!”

What drew you to Spotlight Media originally?
“I don’t remember how I got to my Spotlight Media application, but when I was invited in for an interview at Spotlight and first met Editorial Director Andrew Jason and Web Editor Samantha Stark. I was amazed by their passion and love for the F-M community, not to mention how much I love creative people. I’ve then decided this place should be my new home after college.”

What are you looking forward to the most with your new position?
“The best thing I love so far is sharing an open office with our very talented editorial team. So, besides looking forward to growing my web and e-commerce knowledge, I’m hoping to come in excited every day and get inspired by our very own creative team members.”

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Spotlight Media for a day, whose job would you want? Why?
“Mike Dragosavich. I’ve only followed Mike to a client meeting once, but I’ve learned so much from him. I want to see how Mike fits 72 hours of work into his 24-hour day. Plus, Mike is pretty good with web too, so I wouldn’t worry so much about him being the web coordinator that one day I get to be the CEO.”

Last question, most important, if Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you? Why?
“Emma Watson! She is a strong and independent individual who empowers young women all over the world. She is one of my role models and I don’t think anyone could possibly dislike her. Oh, and she has an accent and so do I.”

Seth Habhegger | Distribution & Circulation Manager

“I started out as a child, raised among the snowy wilds of rural Blackhoof Township in Carlton County in the lovely state of Minnesota. As the years progressed, I grew in knowledge and rapport, working in the financial industry and educating himself at the fine institutions of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and The New School, which is located within the soaring heights of New York City. Thus inculcated, I had the supreme pleasure of being hired by Spotlight Media in May of 2017.”

Seth Habhegger Spotlight Media

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
“On the personal side, I enjoy spending time with my lovely wife Beth and two young sons Rhone and Anders. I also enjoy reading, writing, singing, and helping Cass Act Players, a theater production group of which I’m a founding member, stage its first musical in 2018.”

Share something about yourself that would surprise us?

Last question, most important, if Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you? Why?
“Alas, the only person who could portray me in a film would be the late, great Orson Welles. I just hope they use the younger version.”

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
“I love going to the lake, going to concerts and I occasionally make videos for YouTube.”

What’s your favorite book and/or movie?
“My favorite book is ‘Unwind’ and my favorite movie—though I have many—is either The ‘Prestige,’ ‘Forrest Gump’ or any Marvel movie.”

Share something about yourself that would surprise us?
“I’ve been featured on Jimmy Fallon twice!”

What drew you to Spotlight Media originally?
“My sister used to work here and I’ve heard nothing but good things throughout the community about this company.”

What are you looking forward to the most with your new position?
“Continuing to learn about video production and getting a chance to produce content more often than I used to.”

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Spotlight Media for a day, whose job would you want? Why?
“Photographer Paul Flessland. He gets to spend a lot of time outside of the office and he always looks like he’s having a good time.”

Last question, most important, if Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you? Why?
“I’d like to say Dave Franco, but I think I have too much of a baby face for that and he’s like 30 years old now—I know, who would have thought. I’d be cool with Cole Sprouse giving it a shot.”

Pam Mjoness | Sales Administrative Assistant

Pam Mjoness

“I am born and raised in Moorhead. I worked with my husband launching our small business for the last 3 years. Prior to that, I was a 911 dispatcher for 10 years. I attended Concordia College in Moorhead double majoring in criminal justice and Spanish. My youngest daughter is also fluent in Spanish so we do have conversations between us so our family can’t understand.”

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
“All 4 of my children have either played or are currently playing hockey. We are a year round hockey family with tennis and softball sprinkled in. When I’m not freezing at some hockey rink, I enjoy our backyard pool and knitting newborn hats that I donate to Essentia Health Birthing Center.”

What’s your favorite book and/or movie?
“Favorite book is actually my favorite author, Jennifer Weiner. I love her down-to-earth writing style. Favorite movie of all time is ‘Marley & Me.’ I still cry when watching it.”

Share something about yourself that would surprise us?
“I have 13 tattoos and 4 piercings. Not all are visible. As my mom would say, I ‘look normal’ from the outside.”

What drew you to Spotlight Media originally?
“Having been in the sales industry for the past 3 years, what originally drew me to Spotlight was the additional networking I could do and also bring my experiences to the table. I knew a little bit about how the company was started and how it has grown right here in Fargo.”

What are you looking forward to the most with your new position?
“Learning new things and really challenging myself to take initiative to drive home tasks that are not only given to me but created for me by me. I love to be inventive and try to come up with new strategies to work with. My brain is constantly moving at 100 mph.”

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Spotlight Media for a day, whose job would you want? Why?
“I think everybody here at Spotlight has a heavy load. I would like to shadow Mike (Dragosavich) but not actually BE him. See what he goes through day to day. The stressors he has here trying to manage and run a very successful company and what he envisions for the future. I think he also has a brain that runs 100 mph.”

Last question, most important, if Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you? Why?
“Drew Barrymore. Now for you really young people, you will not get this but when I was younger, people would say I was a dead ringer for her in the movie ‘Savannah Smiles.’ We are both wives and mothers who try to balance family life and work life. Granted, I have more kids but she has a busier work schedule than I.”

Liz McLain | Office Manager

“I was born and raised in Moorhead, Minnesota. I was able to be home with my now 6-month-old son, Eli, prior to working for Spotlight Media. Previously, I worked as a staffing consultant/recruiter for Express Employment Professionals for a little over a year. Prior to that, I was employed as an intake administrative specialist and allocations champion with Integreon Managed Solutions for three years, working closely with a labor relations company as well as with the shipping unions and corresponding employers. I obtained my associate degree in human resources from Minnesota State Community and Technical College. I was the student life officer for the on-campus Student Human Resources Organization and am a member of the honor society Phi Theta Kappa. I am also a member of the Society for Human Resource Management and the Fargo-Moorhead Human Resource Society.”

Liz McLain

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
“Outside of my professional life, much of my time is taken up by my son, Eli. I am an avid reader! I created my own book club a little over a year ago with friends and passively participate in another book club if the book is of interest to me. I also enjoy writing poetry and short stories. I have even started to write a novel.

“I love music and enjoy attending live shows. I enjoy spending time outdoors at the lake, in the parks around the area, traveling to the many different State and National Parks. I thoroughly enjoy hiking and camping. I went on a month long road trip a few years ago where I visited 9 different states, a minimum of 10 different National Parks, hiked hundreds of miles, traveled almost 5,000 miles and slept in a tent at least 23 of the 27 nights.

“I enjoy watching football, hockey and motocross/supercross. I have dabbled in cosplay and have a knack for sewing. I have a large collection of board games and like to have friends over or go to friend houses to play them. I love Hayao Miyazaki films and even have a 1/2 sleeve tattoo in progress featuring most of his characters.”

What’s your favorite book and/or movie?
“It would be difficult to pin down my absolute favorite book. I thoroughly enjoy the ‘Harry Potter’ series and ‘Dream a Little Dream’ by Piers Anthony. My all time favorite movie is ‘The Last Unicorn.'”

Share something about yourself that would surprise us?
“Something surprising? Depending on your personal outlook when learning things about someone, everything could be! I already mentioned my sewing skills but I also am skilled at cake/cookie decorating.”

What drew you to Spotlight Media originally?
“I was very excited when I saw there was an opportunity with Spotlight Media! I have known of the magazines and about the company for some time. I love that it is local and has so much potential! I also was in a photo in the December 2011 issue of FM Spotlight.”

What are you looking forward to the most with your new position?
“As Office Manager, I am looking forward to learning more about the ins and outs of this type of business. I am happy that I will have my skill set put to work and be able to better develop others as well as gain new ones.”

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Spotlight Media for a day, whose job would you want? Why?
“Someone in the editorial staff! I do not know enough about all the ins and outs to get an accurate answer. However, I would enjoy assisting in obtaining stories and information for the magazine. It would be an added satisfaction seeing the hard work in the magazine ones it goes live online and the printed copies arrive in the office.”

Last question, most important, if Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you? Why?
“The only name that comes to mind for an actress to play me is Blake Lively. I like most of the movies she has done and if I got to semi be involved with the movie, I may even meet her beau, Ryan Reynolds!”

Introducing Spotlight Media’s New Interns

Introducing Spotlight Media’s New Interns

Portraits by Paul Flessland

Spotlight Media is constantly growing and changing. As we’re sad to see team members leave, we’re always excited to announce our newest hires. Since all our employees come from a wide range of backgrounds, each member offers unique skills that help the Spotlight Media team become even stronger and more well-rounded. Meet Fargo INC! Editorial Intern Kara Jeffers and Project Administrative Intern Kelsey Wolters, and learn what makes them a perfect fit for our company.

Kelsey Wolters | Project Administrative Intern

Kelsey Wolters is from Burtrum, Minnesota, a village of roughly 100 people about 15 minutes outside of Long Prairie, Minnesota. She’s currently enrolled at Minnesota State University of Moorhead, where she’s scheduled to graduate December 2017 with a major in advertising and a double minor in mass communications and media analysis. Going on four years this August, Wolters is also a manager at the Moorhead Country Club.

Kelsey Wolters

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
“I love going to my parents house, since they live on a lake, and playing with our chocolate lab named Bogey—yes, we are a golfing family. I started golfing when I was six years old, but even though I only go a handful of times a year, it’s one of my favorite things to do.

“Two of the reasons I enjoy winter is because of snowmobiling and hockey season. I grew up in a hockey loving family, so yelling at the TV during games is a common thing. My family also goes on a yearly snowmobile trip around Voyageurs National Park.”

Share something about yourself that would surprise us?
“I can quote a majority of Walt Disney movies, but the Lion King I have memorized like the back of my hand. It was always my favorite movie growing up. If you don’t believe me, wait until you hear me talk about my dog, Mufasa. Best part, he’s a Yorkie, so he is only a small dog with a big dog name.”

What drew you to Spotlight Media originally?
“My mom works at the printing press in Long Prairie, Minnesota, that handles a few Spotlight magazine accounts. When I realized I wanted to get more into sports/advertising a couple years ago, she brought home the Bison Illustrated magazine for me to look at and I started looking into the magazines and following them ever since.”

What are you looking forward to the most?
“I have always been curious as to how the company works, so understanding and learning the complete process from brainstorming to sending the magazines to print is something I am ready to learn.”

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Spotlight Media for a day, whose job would you want? Why?
“I would have to say it would probably be with a photographer or designer. I was a photography major for two years at MSUM before I switched over to advertising. I have always enjoyed the art and the creative process.”

Last question, most important, if Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see casted as you? Why?
“Zooey Deschanel because I went through a phase where I had dark hair and straight bangs. But mostly, it would be because in “New Girl,” she’s slightly awkward and always joking around or laughing. If you were to ask my friends, they could tell you a few dozen awkward stories of me, along with the fact I can never be serious for more than a few seconds.”

Kara Jeffers | Fargo INC! Editorial Intern

Kara Jeffers is from Garrison, North Dakota, a small town north of Bismarck, North Dakota, on Lake Sakakawea. She’s expected to graduate from North Dakota State University in May with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and minor in theatre arts. In addition to working at Spotlight Media, Jeffers also works at the Fargo-Moorhead Visitor’s Center, where she’s one of the first people (and, at times, only person) visitors meet when they arrive to North Dakota—talk about pressure.

Kara Jeffers

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
“I enjoy theatre, specifically directing. I read a lot, both books and plays. During the summer, I ride my bike and try to do at least 10 miles every day. I play piano and the ukulele. I’m constantly planning road trips I want to take.”

Share something about yourself that would surprise us?
“I like to do things that scare me. For example, I’m scared of heights but try to put myself into situations to help me conquer that fear, like skydiving, parasailing, climbing towers or walls, going on to roofs of buildings and so on.”

What drew you to Spotlight Media originally?
“While working at the F-M Visitor’s Center, we get all of (Spotlight Media’s) publications delivered to us to hand out to visitors. I would always read them when they came in. As the semester was nearing an end, and I was looking for a journalism-related internship, I remembered how fun and creative the magazines were and decided to look up job opportunities at Spotlight.”

What are you looking forward to the most?
“I’m looking forward to creating connections with my coworkers and people in the Fargo-Moorhead area. I’m excited to meet and get to know people within the business community.”

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Spotlight Media for a day, whose job would you want? Why?
“I would want to switch with Sarah Geiger, the lead designer. I’ve always been interested in design, even though it’s been several years since I’ve pursued it, and I think the switch would also remind me how much work the designers do that doesn’t always get recognized.”

Last question, most important, if Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see casted as you? Why?
“Oh gosh, I expected this question to be difficult. It’s actually super easy. Mae Whitman, for three reasons: 1. I’ve loved every character I’ve seen her portray. 2. “Parenthood” is my favorite. 3. She has just as many, if not more, ear piercings as I do.”

“I hope to learn as much as I can about the magazine business so I can get a better feel for what I want to do after graduating from college.
